Deadline for NEA’s New Logo Design is March 5th by Tina Manzer The National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) is calling on students, designers, artists, companies and private citizens to create a new logo for the organization’s “Art Works” initiative. The application, called a request for proposals, is available at www.arts.gov/artworksdesign. The deadline is March 5. The new logo, says NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman, should reflect the three uses of “Art Works”: 1. As a noun, to describe the books, crafts, dances, designs, drawings, films, installations, music, musicals, paintings, plays, performances, poetry, textiles and sculptures that artists create. 2. Using works as a verb to describe how art works on and within people to change and inspire them. It addresses the need people have to create, to imagine and to aspire to something more. 3. As a declarative sentence, signifying that artists do real jobs that are part of the real economy. Artists pay taxes, and art contributes to economic growth, neighborhood revitalization and the livability of American towns and cities. The process involves submitting one image (in both black-and-white and color), and a three-page narrative that provides an explanation of the proposed image and basic information about the designer. The National Endowment for the Arts was established in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government.
